Outstanding A level success for students at Ark Academy

This summer, we have enjoyed celebrating outstanding ‘A’ Level results with our first cohort of students! We opened in 2010 and our school has grown with these founder students. We are so proud that many achieved the top grades enabling them to attain excellent university places. Some of the highlights are shared below.

Attainment

  • Of the 75 students in year 13, 57% achieved 3+A*-C grades and nearly a third 3+A*-B grades.
  • 21% of all results attained were grade A or A*and 82% of all results were a grade C or higher; additionally, the average grade achieved overall is a grade C.
  • Overall, 86% of our year 13 cohort passed 3 or more A levels.

Progress

  • Our ALPs score - a measure of student attainment against the top quarter of students nationally - is extremely positive at grade 3. In effect, this means our results are in the top 25% of grades across the country.
  • Furthermore, our estimated L3VA (Level 3 Value Added) is positive showing students progressed well in comparison with all peers nationally.

University Beckons

We are so proud that two students gained places at Cambridge University. The first is Jai Sorabji Stewart, who achieved 4 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. He is looking forward to studying Mathematics at St John’s Cambridge. Additionally, Aliyah Lashani-Ewing will also be studying Philosophy at Cambridge, having attained 3 A*s.

Clement Owusu, our Head Boy, arrived at Ark in year 8 from Italy with little English – he has gone on to achieve 3 As in Economics, Geography and Philosophy. He will be studying Philosophy and Global Sustainable Development at Warwick. Clement, along with 6 other year 13 students, is a recipient of a Marshall Wace Bursary to help talented Ark students heading for top universities, who might not otherwise be able to afford higher education.

Many other students gained really excellent grades and university places. Andrei Bogdan will be studying Computer Science at Bristol, five students will be studying maths at various top universities and engineering also proved to be very popular choice with eight students attending a variety of top universities from Bath to Sheffield. Overall 94% of our students have achieved university places, 33% in the top 10% of universities and 25% attained Russell group places.
