International Women’s Day

On Thursday, 7th of March, Year 12’s had their weekly briefing, except this week it was different. In the lead up to International Women’s Day, we spent our briefing celebrating some of the phenomenal things that women have achieved throughout history. We even got to celebrate women that for some of us are close to ‘home’, our form groups - 12Jemison and 12Sharman!The build up to the much anticipated day didn’t stop there as Sarah Amini, Beheshta Harghandiwal and their dedicated team spent the evening decorating our 6th form building with pink balloons, banners and flowers in order to celebrate women and break the stereotype that pink is a weak, inferior colour. On Friday 8th March, International Women’s day, Ark Academy 6th form came together and showed solidarity by wearing pink. Whether it was an entire outfit or a pink ribbon, we proudly came together to celebrate women and donate money for the Solace Women’s Aid, a charity that helps women and children in London to build safe and strong lives, free from abuse and violence. Students even adorned stickers of famous faces such as Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Obama, as well as taking numerous group photos, proudly showing off our pink outfits. Together, we raised £143.54.
