Sixth Form building now open for business

Our long awaited facility for our Sixth Form students is officially complete and open for business!

On a celebratory night for Ark Academy, the opening of the new building played host to the excited students who can now call it home, along with school staff and everyone who has worked on the mammoth task for the past 6 years.

During the ceremony those closest to the project spoke of their pride at seeing it come to fruition before sixth formers displayed their musical talents with a performance of an AS level coursework piece.

Principal Delia Smith said: 'It was a great evening, the sixth form students were so excited and wonderful ambassadors for our school. I want to thank everyone involved who has worked so hard to bring the building to life.

Our premises team, the construction company Mace and our generous sponsor Ian Wace. I know all who attended will echo that it was a very special night.'

Director of Sixth Form Mr Fairbairn spoke of the tremendous amount of planning that has gone into, not only the building, but the setting up of this final phase of school life.

'I have a friend who is a carpenter and his favourite saying is 'Measure twice, cut once' and that is what we have done through many meetings about absolutely every aspect of the Sixth Form, from curriculum to professional dress.'

The new building boasts state of the art facilities including a study centre, cafe, drama and performance hall, classrooms, computer terminals and a laboratory. We are extremely pleased with the results and look forward to successful times ahead over the coming years.

Thank Yous from the evening.

We would like to thank Josephine and the cleaning team who made everything spick and span, Victoria and the catering team who provided a wonderful spread, ably distributed by our fabulous Year 11 prefects. The display team for dressing the site; the display was fantastic and finally Miss Haslam for putting the evening programme together and her excellent attention to detail.
