Women in Rugby Bilingual Tournament - Come along for some End of Half Term Fun!

Ark Bilingual Rugby Tournament – Friday 27th May.

Following the success of the Women in Sport day Ark Academy hosted in partnership with the Jason Roberts Foundation, the next all-female sports fixture is taking place on Friday, 27th May at 2pm.

The event is a partnership between Ark and the Winston Churchill Lycée, which will see MFL students from Ark commentate on the game in French, live over the PA system. Post-match refreshments will be French-themed, whilst an all-girls choir will sing both the English and French National Anthems before the tournament starts.

Building on an extremely successful relationship with Kilburn Cosmos RFC, the ladies division of Brent’s only Rugby Union club will be on hand to entice the girls in to doing more organised sports by joining the club for training sessions.

Currently, a core group of Year 8 students are enjoying a very successful first season with KCRFC, and were selected to represent Brent in the London Youth Games in the Spring.

Serge Betsen, French International and 2x World Cup Semi Finalist, will lend his expertise to the afternoon. Currently, Serge coaches Ark and Lycée students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in a dual-venture between the two schools.

Many schools from across the borough have already signed up to the event, with organiser Sam Edmondson anticipating over 80 young women taking part in the Under 13’s and Under 15’s categories.

The competition will be a touch-rugby tournament, allowing the girls to familiarise themselves with rugby’s rules for the first time.
