Remembrance Day 2016

A sombre and reflective occasion as always, Armistice Day was commemorated at Ark this year by a beautiful poppy garden created by our DT technician Miss Whittaker. She designed crosses with a poppy centrepiece and placed 100 of them in the playground to mark 100 years since the devastating Battle of the Somme.

As part of the remembrance ceremony, Principal Mrs Smith, Associate Principal Mr Dainty and our Head Boy and Head Girl, Clement and Maaryah, laid poppy wreaths after a bugler played the Last Post.

A two minutes silence was observed before the student body attended an poignant and informative assembly which explained the realities of war. Readings of emotive war poetry and a haunting performance by our chamber choir rounded out the event.
