Students and teachers from ARK Academy Wembley, working with community organising charity, Citizens UK, are celebrating the news that Mr Leon Daniels, Managing Director, Surface Transport, Transport for London, has agreed to a meeting with them to discuss their concerns about the frequency of bus services in their local area.
The pupils, who had planned to present Mr Daniels with an alarm clock to remind him they were waiting for an answer to their meeting request, will now hand over a thank-you card, acknowledging his agreement to meet with them and consider the issues they have raised.
Pupils at the school regularly wait for more than 40 minutes to catch a bus home. Getting home late means that time for homework, extra study and after school activities, such as sports clubs, are often missed. Throughout a school year this is equivalent to missing two full weeks of study time.
Paul Amuzie, Citizens UK’s Community Organiser for Brent said:
“The students at Ark Academy Wembley have used the skills we’ve helped them develop to secure a meeting with a senior executive at Transport for London. It’s fantastic to see the young people take action and get involved with sorting out solutions to problems that directly impact them. We thank Mr Daniels for his promise of a meeting and hope the discussions with TfL bring about an improved bus service for the area.”
