Newbie Netballers triumph on their debut
Year 5 have won their first ever netball match 2-0 - a fantastic achievement for a newly formed team!
After two lunchtime trials the previous week, ten girls were selected from Year 5 to represent the academy in a match against John Keble School. We then had two lunchtimes, with the help of the Year 6 netball team, to get the Year 5s up to scratch.
Netball is a complicated game for any newcomers as each individual player has to remember exactly where they are allowed to go on court, as well as remembering not to move with the ball - a lot to learn in a short space of time, but the girls rose to the challenge!
Despite only having 2 hours of training, the team were enthusiastic and excited for the match, and had spent the weekend memorising the rules of the game. Luckily John Keble were also bringing a Year 6 team too, so the Year 5s were able to watch a match before it was their turn to play.
Having won every one of their matches so far, the Year 6 team went in confidently. They showed how much they have progressed in their netball with some amazing teamwork to get the ball from one end of the court to the other, and some great interceptions from our formidable defence. The match ended with another convincing win of 5-1 for the team, keeping their unbeaten record intact.
The Year 5 match got off to a great start with an early goal from Daniela, which gave the team a boost, and there was some great play from all the team.
The match ended 2-0 to Ark Academy, so there are definitely some new netball stars in the making in Year 5. The girls were so excited about their first win, so lets hope they can achieve a few more over the next term.
Thank you to Miss Brown for organising the team :)
