The third cohort of students to complete their sixth form at Ark Academy were celebrating outstanding ‘A’ level and BTEC results which has drawn a bumper crop of excellent university places. Top grades increased with 30% of students achieving A*/A grades, 60% A*/B and all students passed their ‘A’ level exams. The results put Ark Academy in top 10% of schools nationally for progress post 16.

Head Girl Heba Mushattat (A*, A, A) will study medicine at St Georges Hospital. Heba will also receive a £9,000 Marshall Wace scholarship. “I am most proud of my biology result, I got an A*. To get a place to study medicine has always been my dream. Heading off to St Georges with an Ark Bursary has eased the financial pressure of university and made results day all the more sweet.”

Suchita Rana (A*, A, A) will also study medicine at UCL. “Being one of the first two people from Ark and the first in my family to get a place to study medicine is surreal. I am proud that I have defied the odds and made my family proud.”

Overall Ark girls bucked the national trend for mathematics with 9 girls achieving A*/A grades in maths.

Hani Dahir achieved A* in both maths and further maths and an A in chemistry and will study maths at Imperial. Klio Balliu achieved excellent results (A*, A, B) and he will study electrical engineering also at Imperial. Shannon Lee (A, A, A, C) will study engineering at Bristol.

Many other fantastic offers have been achieved, Yash Shah (A, A, B) was ecstatic with his place at Queen Mary College to study French. Yash is registered blind and was disappointed last year with his A/S results and has shown what grit and determination can do when you have a goal in mind.

Overall STEM results were excellent leading to superb university places. From right, Klio Balliu, Juan Rengifo (mechanical engineering at Queen Mary),Wiktor Wachala (mechanical engineering at Loughborough) and Joel Agyekum.

Joel has gained a highly competitive degree level apprenticeship with Transport for London. Additionally Hasiba Husseini will study for a degree apprenticeship at Ofcom.

There were many excellent outcomes in a broad range of subjects, including history, English, economics, psychology and sociology.

Friends Prashina Harjani and Veesha Gajar are both going to study Politics and International Relations at Nottingham.

BTEC Business had an exceptional set of results with 93% of students achieving distinctions (D*,D,D) or better. Aaron Stewart achieved the highest award possible of D*,D*,D* and will study Management and International Business at Royal Holloway.

BTEC Science students also scooped some excellent courses including pharmacology, biomedical science, physiotherapy and psychology.

Mrs Smith said “I am proud of the continuing improvement in our ‘A’ level and BTEC success and the increase in top level university places. I am also extremely pleased that students are starting to see the value of high level degree apprenticeships.”
