Bumper Week of Music-Making
Tuesday 10 November 2020
Selected KS3 Ark Academy students were treated to three online music workshops last week, all run by visiting professional artists, and arranged by the Ark Central Music team. The workshops cover similar topics to what each year group is currently studying and provided an opportunity for students to explore the subject areas in more depth.
Year 9 were first, with a North Indian Classical Music session to complement their Fusion studies, where they were taught about Rag scales, and how to improvise and add accompanying parts.
Year 7 then had the opportunity to take part in an exhilarating session with a percussionist from the successful West End show Stomp. He took them through a series of warm ups, and they then learnt several patterns from the show. This exhausting session had them undertaking all sorts of body percussion ranging from clapping, stamping and hitting their thighs!
Year 8 were lastly the recipients of a Baroque masterclass with a professional Cellist. They were able to learn more about Baroque instruments, what life was like then, and how to develop the melodies that they have been playing in class, either on keyboard or on their own instrument.
