World Book Day
World Book Day saw a whirlwind of events celebrating the joy of reading. We kicked off with a Big Book Bonanza Form Quiz, which had forms across the school using their literary knowledge to compete for house points. Quiz champions also then had the opportunity to watch a one-off special performance of Matilda in the library, courtesy of GCSE Drama!
‘Book Bingo Quest’ also proved a big hit, with teachers from every department donning the identity of a book character. Eager bookworms then collected Bingo sheets from the library, challenging them to find and name as many characters as they could throughout the day. Many characters were correctly identified, including Miss ‘Dobby ‘ Sach, Mr. ‘Gollum’ O’Carroll, and Miss ‘Dracula’ Figueroa, to name just a few.
This year’s World Book Day theme was ‘share a story’, so it seemed fitting to honour the occasion with the return of Real People Read! Storytelling teachers treated an appreciative lunchtime audience to passages from some of their favourite books. Mr. Ding took us on a journey down the river of history – reading from ‘A Little History of the World’ – while Mr. Cheetham entertained with his description of Mr. Bucket’s job attaching toothpaste caps, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Hanan Mohamud and Lokmen Cherfi in year 7 also got involved – sharing with everyone a bit about the fantasy books they are currently reading.
A big thank you to everyone who helped to make World Book Day 2019 an amazing day at Ark!
