Year 9 Basketball team are Brent Champions 2015 after a nail biting match!

Our Year 9 basketball team retained their status as Brent Champions for a 3rd successive year after a pulsating 29-26 victory against Crest.

Having struggled against our opponents previously we knew that it would be one of our most difficult games to date. We got off to a strong start and Matthew David Tate, Rynell Seaton and Joel Agyekum combined with some sublime passes, cuts and offloads to put us up 19 -11 at half time.

However, to give credit where its due, our opponents never gave up and some excellent screens and shots from in and around the key got them right back into the game. By the end of the quarter we were only two points in front with the scores at 24-22.

It was do or die time in the final quarter and the boys were under no illusions that they would have to give every ounce of energy in the offence and defence if we were going to secure the victory. They did exactly that and our fantastic work rate and determination allowed us to gain two further baskets courtesy of Rynell.

The final score was 29-36 to Ark.

Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rynell Seaton said: 'I’m feeling happy. It went well and we worked hard to get here.

There was a point during the match when we knew we had to work hard; the game was tied at 23 points and we knew what we were capable of, we knew we had to give it our all and that’s what won us the game eventually.'

Juan Rengifo and the rest of the team believe his pre-match ritual contributed to the win: 'I always pray before the game so we can win; this time we didn’t pray but I’m sure God was on our side – amen!!'

Congratulations to both teams for a fantastically entertaining match!!
