Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Consultation

Letter to Parents/Carers

In 2019 it was announced that it is a statutory requirement that all schools in England and Wales are teaching Relationship and Sex Education as a fundamental part of the curriculum. Due to the pandemic this date was postponed until the summer term of this academic year. With PSHE [and RSE] a fully established part of our curriculum at Ark Academy we have been able to deliver many aspects of the new statutory content and meet the needs of our students

However, as part of reviewing our existing provision and implementing a new Relationship & Sex Education [RSE] policy and curriculum, we want to consult with parent/carers and staff to ensure there is a consensus on our approaches to policy and the curriculum content.

Ark Academy will be starting their consultation process on Wednesday 31st March 2021; the consultation will close on the Friday 23rd April 2021.

As part of this, parents/carers and staff will be asked to read through the following two documents and make comments on them. The two documents that you are asked to read as part of the consultation will be:

In order to provide your feedback to this consultation, we would appreciate your completion of the following questionnaire:

If you wish to carry out further reading around RSE, the following documents may be of use to you:

We will also hold an optional information session for parents on Tuesday 27th April 2021. This will be from 1700-1800 and held virtually via MS Teams. Mr O’Carroll [Vice Principal] will be leading this meeting. If you wish to attend this meeting, please contact Joanne Nelson [] who will register you and send you the invitation link in advance.
